"In the Moment" ,  24"X24" ,  Acrylic on canvas Reference photos Courtesy of Dawn Sloane. This was another painting entered in the 2019 CAS Juried Show at the Public Archives.  I was very inspired by this wonderful woman so immersed in her dance and displaying such grace, beauty and honor. 

"Peggy'sChurch" ,16"X20", is my interpretation of one of CAS's Paint the Same photos , where Contemporary Art Society artists are challenged to paint their own version of the same photograph! This was my version of it! 

"At Rest at Peggy's Cove" , 20"X24" , Acrylic on gallery wood. This painting's focus is the  row of well loved  and highly needed boats in scenic Peggy's Cove .

"Just Ducky", 8"X10", Acrylic on canvas, this painting is one of my entries for the 2019 Juried Show at the NS Archives in May. I was inspired to paint this little duck as it seemed to be quite happy where it was and just enjoying swimming around in the cool water on a hot day. 

"The Forgotten" , 8"X10", Acrylic on canvas.  This is one of my entries in the Contemporary Art Society's  46th Annual Juried Show. The reference photo used was courtesy of Kevin Moore. I can just imagine the history behind these antique vehicles- how wonderful they looked in their day, who rode in them and the places they would travel- each has it's own stories to tell. 

"Peggy's Way" 12" x 24", Acrylic  This painting is my take on the beautiful landscape of Peggy's Cove area that amazes us all year round but is extra special come the autumn!

This is a very remote local area that is full of  beauty and history (The Sambro Lighthouse)  

This painting of the Dingle in fall was a commission I did recently.  This is one of the most beautiful spots in HRM and one of my favorite places to go for a hike any time of year!  I was grateful for the chance to paint it! :-) 

"Winter Elk" ,Acrylic, 20" x 24"  One of my entries this year for the CAS 43rd Annual Juried Show & Sale that was held at the Public Archives of N.S.in May.  
It was awarded the 2016 Honorable Mention Award- Animal/Bird Category

"Bunnies on Spring Garden"  4" x 5"  acrylic on Gallery-style Birchwood panels. This is one of 4 little paintings I did for Argyle Fine Arts 2016 PreShrunk Show . This was the scene in front of  LaFrasca Cibi & Vini on Spring Garden Rd. this summer! It certainly brightened up the street! 

"Halifax City Hall-Summer"  Acrylic 8" x 10" This is my latest painting of Halifax City Hall. This one depicts this historical building as it was this summer with the colourful and inviting chairs and picnic tables set up on Grand Parade so that the city's residents may sit outside and enjoy the view. This painting was exhibited along with several other works of mine in CAS's Hallifax City Hall Exhibition that was held  at Halifax City Hall . 

"Cycling Past St.Paul's Church", 12" x 16, Acrylic   This is one of the nicest corners in Halifax! St. Paul's Church is the oldest building in the city( 1750) and just on the other side of it is our beautiful and historical City Hall!

"Retired at Peggy's Cove" 16" x 20" , Acrylic on Birchwood.  This painting is one that I did for the CAS "Paint the Same" where the members bring in photos and we take a vote and choose our fav and then each paint our own interpretation of the photo. This was my version of it. I loved trying to interpret in my own way the texture and detail of the old fish shack and the retired whale boat which each have their own stories to tell. 

"Halifax City Hall" 11" x 14" Acrylic on Birchwood.   This painting won an Honorable Mention Award, Open Category (Architecture) in The Contemporary Art Society's 42nd Annual Juried Show & Sale. This is one of my fav historical buildings in the city! We sadly are loosing more and more of them as they are being torn down in the name of progress. In my mind it is a backward progression.  We see all the unique architecture, warm inviting buildings each with their own character that used to line our streets, that said so much about our past culture and heritage, being silenced and disappearing. 

                             "The Look" " 8 x 10" Acrylic  Animals are one of my favorite subjects to paint. They are all individuals with personalities of their own.  I spotted this beautiful fellow tied to a post patiently waiting for his person to come out of the store one day and the expression on his face said it all.       

"Lunenburg Twins", 12" x 24", Acrylic . This painting was one of my entries for the Contemporary Art Society's 41st Annual Juried Show and Sale at the Halifax Public Archives . It earned a Honorable Mention Award for Seascapes/Coastal paintings. 

"City Hall Tower",  4" x 5" is one of many little paintings I had at Argyle Fine Art. It is sold.

This 6"x6" tile that I titled " The Wave" was one of my entries for this year's Mosaic for Mental Health. The Opening was held in October at the Craig Gallery at Alderney Landing. They continue to sell the tiles throughout the year at various spots as well as the year's Mosaic Poster and cards of selected works. All the funds raised go to the Mental Health Association so I enter a few tiles every year as it's always great to support such a wonderful cause.

"Seconds at Queens" 6" x 12" This is a very popular spot on Queen Street just off of Spring Garden where many great bargains can be found!  

 "Point Pleasant Lodge" 16" x 20" It's a fascinating little building with lots of medieval charm. It has been used as many things including a gardener's lodge over the years. 

This is an album that I recently painted for a fundraiser for the Craig Gallery. I saw this young man sharing his music in downtown Halifax and was inspired by his love and feel for his music.  He now has his own record label..so to speak.

"Europa at Halifax Waterfront", 14" x 14" , Acrylic.  This summer I spent a lot of time on the waterfront to enjoy the Tall Ships ( one of my favorite subjects to paint) while they were in Halifax. It always fascinates me to see just how graceful and majestic they seem as they glide along the harbour! Throughout history, Halifax has been a safe haven for hundreds of ships and the souls aboard who braved the sea. 

"Coburg Coffee" 12" x 12" Acrylic  This painting is currently showing at ARGYLE FINE ART. This vision of Coburg Coffee's warm inviting colors and the solitary bike was a great inspiration for a painting with the thought that the person who owns this bike is inside enjoying a drink! I can smell the aroma of coffee everytime I look at it! 

"Corner of Bishop & Barrington"

"Corner of Bishop & Barrington", acrylic, 8" x 10"  This is one of my more recent paintings. I have always had a love and respect for the older buildings in our fair city. They are steeped in history and all have their own unique style and story to tell. I also love the look and texture of old stone and brick work along with the warmth and dedication to the trade it displays. This painting is currently available at Argyle Fine Art on Barrington Street. .

"Green Dorymen" Acrylic, 8" x 10" This was one of our "Paint the Same" photo pics and one of  my entries for the Contemporary Art Society's 40th Annual Juried Show that was held at the Nova Scotia Archives .

"Peggy's Light", 4" x 5" , Acrylic  This little painting is showing at Argyle Fine Art for the Pre-Shrunk Show which is on until Feb. 26th, 2012. No matter how many times I visit or paint Peggy's Cove - I never tire of it.  It is always a breath-taking site and represents so much of Nova Scotia's heritage. Having lost members at sea in both sides of my family tree...I respect the power of the ocean, the ruggedness of the coastline and can only imagine what a lighthouse beacon must mean for those who must travel and make their living on the ocean currents.  

"Dingle Bench"

"Dingle Bench", Acrylic, 8" x 10"   This is one of my favorite spots to walk in HRM.  I've done several paintings of benches in different areas..as I can always look at them and imagine myself ( or anyone else) sitting there and enjoying the view.

This is one of my smaller paintings  (7" x 7") I did of a small portion of Halifax's skyline that shows a blend of the old and new- St.Paul's Steeple and the TD building- titled "Taking it to the Top"

"Sunlit Bridge",  5" x 7", Acrylic, This is a  painting of a bridge at the Halifax Public Gardens  The damage left behind by Juan is harder to see now and the slow start to summer hasn't lessened the lush greenery that acts as a background to the Garden's Victorian structures, the flowers or their beauty.

"Lunenburg Academy"

"Lunenburg Academy" , Acrylic, 16" x 20"  This painting I did for many reasons...the main one being that the building itself is so beautiful!  I remember being amazed by it in my childhood when we would go to visit  relatives who lived and grew up in the area. It was built in the late 1800's to teach grades one to twelve for many years and is still being used to this day for children in the area.

"Foxy"

"Foxy", Acrylic, 16"x20", It was in the heat of summer when this little guy was caught on camera by a member of my extended family who has a quick camera finger and a keen eye. The fox had paused at the waters edge and took a moment to survey his surroundings before having a drink. Fox are known to be both cautious and crafty as well as quick - very handy tools in the bid for survival in the wild. Once in a while, some of us are lucky enough to catch a rare glance of  their beauty before they dash off back into the wilderness. Thanks to my friend's luck, camera skills and willingness to share the resulting photo - I was able to create this depiction of our "Foxy" friend for which I won an Honorable Mention Award at the Contemporary Art Society's 38th Annual Juried Show" 

"The Sagres"

       "The Sagres" Acrylic  16" x 20" 
    This is one of my latest paintings and is currently available for sale from the artist.  The Sagres is a three masted barque and a training ship for the Portuguese Navy since 1961. It's one of the many Tall Ships that have come to visit Halifax during the Parade of Sails in recent years. 

"Flora"

This is a watercolor painting of the Goddess Flora at the Halifax Gardens. Flora is thought of as a godess of budding springtime.  This painting was shown at the 2006 Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor Associate's Juried show where she won an Honorable Mention Award.
